Epilepsie bei älteren Patienten

Zusammenfassung
Epilepsie ist die dritthäufigste neurologische Erkrankung im höheren Lebensalter. Die Prävalenz wird
in den nächsten Jahren weiter zunehmen, sodass die adäquate Behandlung der Patienten eine zunehmende
Herausforderung darstellt. Auch diagnostisch erfordert die Erkrankung viel Fingerspitzengefühl.
Aufgrund der speziellen Pharmakokinetik und Pharmakodynamik sind ältere Patienten besonders
vulnerabel für unerwünschte Medikamentennebenwirkungen. Je nach vorliegenden Grunderkrankungen
und Beeinträchtigungen muss individuell entschieden werden, welches Antiepileptikum am
besten geeignet ist.

Epilepsy in elderly patients

Abstract
Epilepsy is the third most common neurological disease in the elderly. The prevalence will increase over
the next few years. Adequate treatment of patients is therefore an increasing challenge. Also, the diagnosis
requires considerable intuition. Due to the special pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, elderly
patients are especially vulnerable to adverse drug side effects. The choice of the antiepileptic drug depends
on the present diseases and disabilities.
